Treasure Hunter

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Mike grunted. “Of all the…”

He shook his head. No time to argue this one. The tesseract brought him here and he had a job to do.

Dust filled the old bar. On the floor. On the worn pool table. On the lamps and tables. The air was thick with it and he pulled his kerchief up over his mouth and nose.

A painting of women dancing hung on the far wall. “Bet that’s where it is.” Whatever it was this time. Clues, some on the Board called them. Treasures, others said. Mike didn’t care. If they led him one step closer to finding out what they did with Maya, he’d go where they sent him. But here?

He scanned the room, every minute he thought he’d see a ghost from his past, but there was no one. That made the room all the more empty. So close to home. Could this mean he was close to finding her?

“I’m coming, Maya, I’m coming.”
