Flash Fiction Friday: The Last Man In The World

Here is my story for this week’s Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers challenge. Enjoy!

“Oh yeah, this is very festive.” Steve shoved his hands in his pockets.

“Will you stop? I promised Susan. She needs us.” Maggie whispered through clenched teeth while she kept an eye on Susan a few feet away.

“Who doesn’t love a dinosaur museum? I know I do. I just thought, you know, a Christmas party would have a few more Christmas decorations.”

Susan joined them. She gave them an embarrassed smile and shrugged her shoulders. “Sorry guys. When he told me office party, I thought he meant Christmas. But, he meant Winter Solstice. Still, kinda cool, right? I mean, who needs Santa when you have a giant T-Rex?”

“So, where’s this mystery man of yours?” Maggie looked around the room.

“Jonathan? He should be here any minute now. It’s his office party, right?” Susan’s face lit up and she waved at someone behind Maggie.

“I once knew a museum guy named Jonathan. Total creep. He would…” Maggie turned and her smile fell.

The last man in the world she wanted to see approached.
