Flash Fiction Friday: Among The Giants

Here’s my contribution to this week’s Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers.

“There it is!”

“Where?”

I scanned the high brick and stone walls of architectural art not used for hundreds of years. I imagined them to be castles and palaces of a forgotten aristocracy. They loomed in the distance while the ferry glided up the canal. I wondered which one Julianne would take me to, which one her ghost called her to.

Ghost. I shook my head. Can’t believe I was doing this, but I promised. Only after I promised did it seem some peace finally came to her. Peace after months of night terrors and days where she was with me physically, but only her shell. This ghost called to her. I didn’t know what else to do.

Where would it live? The castle with its crumbling turrets, or the once grand palace that was now a luxury hotel?

I followed to where Julianne pointed. A house, out of place among the giants around it.

“There?” I asked. Julianne nodded. I looked closer. A face stared back at me from one of its windows.

I’m right at 174 this week – again! Really wasn’t sure where I was going to go with this one. Too many ideas from the one pic. This one was the loudest, though.
