Flash Fiction Friday: New World Order

This is my story inspired by the folks at Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers and the photo provided by TJ Paris.

“You’ve got to be kidding me…” Steph stopped in the middle of the street and stared at an eye-assaulting four story building. A red and yellow wood façade covered every part of the building in abstract crisscrosses, save for a black store front on the bottom.

“Isn’t it awesome?” Cassie giggled. “You might want to do something about your face.”

Steph peeled pink bubble gum from her nose and chin. “The Funky Munky?”

Cassie nodded and her smile widened.

“Seriously? This is where it all happens? You’re telling me all the world leaders are inside there?”

Cassie’s smile vanished. “Shut up! It’s secret, remember? And no, not all of them. But enough of them.”

Cassie’s eyes glazed over white. A wind began to blow around her and steadily strengthened. “Are we doing this or not?”

Steph closed her eyes and inhaled. Her hands began to glow orange and red. “New World Order, right?”

Her eyes popped open and danced with fire. “Let’s do this.”

Wasn’t sure where I was going with the story today. Started out with a story of two college girls finding an apartment, but wound up with this. Very strange places these stories take me. Very strange indeed.

Hope you enjoyed it. I clocked in at 164 words, so I’m back going in the wrong direction. Should have tightened it up a bit.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think. Have a great Friday!

  1. They are the culprits that are going to start the new world order which I find amusing since she had bubble gum all over her face. LOL! Great story, Russell! It kept me captivated wanting to know what was happening next.

  2. Haha, love your little note that explained how you started the story and where it ended up. Interesting where stories take us, isn’t it? Most of the time, we don’t write them. They write themselves 😉 I do love the fantasy twist. Would love to see this New World Order in action.
