The Number One Issue at the Heart of True Compassion

This is not a new topic for me.

You’ve read about my ideas concerning compassion on this blog for a little over a year now, and I may have mentioned this a time or two.

I believe we are all created equal.

All of us. Black, White, Asian, Caucasian, Male, Female, whatever label you are comfortable with using.

We are equal.

But I think that’s the one hurdle we as the human race still haven’t jumped. We don’t see each other as equal. We see our differences as something to fear or disdain rather than to marvel and celebrate.

God is tremendously creative.

I stand in awe of His brilliance when I look on humanity and all of creation.

We cannot have true Compassion until we jump that hurdle of equality.

It wasn’t one race He created in His image.

We were ALL created the same way.

His image.

His value imprinted on every single one of us.

It’s about time we get that into our heads.

This past Tuesday, the world gave a nod to International Women’s Day. But I wonder how much was lip service and how much was true intent toward real gender equality?

It’s not a new topic for me.

I’ve written about it in my post Tomboys, Pansies, and Biblical Gender Roles.

I want you to know this isn’t lip service from me. I don’t always get it right. Probably mess up more than not. But, I’m serious about this. You should be serious about this.

Especially you call call Jesus “My beloved, My redeemer, My King.”

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. – Galatians 3:28

But, enough about what I think. There are some better thinkers and speakers out there. You may have heard about the UN’s movement HeforShe. I think it’s time you read up on it.

I probably don’t agree with every ideology that might be pushed through large movements like this, but I haven’t stumbled on anything yet.

It’s about equality. It’s about rights for our wives, our daughters, our sisters, our friends.

And, it’s high time we get serious about this.

From their site:

Our Mission

The world is at a turning point. People everywhere understand and support the idea of gender equality. They know it’s not just a women’s issue, it’s a human rights issue. And when these powerful voices are heard, they will change the world. The time for that change is now.

HeForShe is inviting people around the world to stand together to create a bold, visible force for gender equality. And it starts by taking action right now to create a gender equal world

Go now. Go to their site, read up, and see if this is where you might want to take that next step toward equality, toward compassion.
