“When did they start working on the old church?” Jason asked. He stared out his office while sipping his morning coffee.
“It was just there this morning.” Janice said with a sigh. “Listen, Jason, what is it you wanted to tell me? I really need to get prepared for court. Judge Marlow is likely to call for final arguments this morning.”
Jason turned to face her and sat his coffee down on his desk. “That’s just it, Janice, we’ve done it. I’ve found someone. Someone who will help us put the final nail in Miguel’s coffin. We have him this time. We…”
Janice heard the small crack of glass before the red blossomed on Jason’s chest. His eyes widened and he dropped to his knees. Shock stole the scream from her.
“My old house…Janice…my old house…” blood bubbled in his mouth.
Finally, the scream came as she ran.
