Private Conversation

Is it really time for Flash Fiction Friday already? Wow, the week flew by! Let’s get to the story with John and the mystery man:

“Where is everyone?”

“Safe.”

The man’s grin was plastic. Immutable.

I looked into his eyes, and I wanted to wretch. There was evil there. Evil and pain. Not his pain. The agony of millions danced in his gaze.

“Who are you?” I asked again.

“You’re rescuer. I made all the bad things stop.”

“Are you the one who made them start?”

I gritted my teeth and prepared for anything.

“Semantics,” he laughed.

“You killed all of them.”

“Yes,” he kept smiling.

“For what reason?”

“That’s not important. What’s important,” he stepped closer. “Is that you and I can finally talk.”
