A Hope Not Deferred

Hello everyone! Happy Flash Fiction Friday to you! Today we’ll continue on with my “Shelter” story. Also, I hope to have my August Newsletter out later today. We’ll see how that goes. If you haven’t signed up, yet, what are you waiting for? Look for the link at the end of today’s post and sign up! Until then, enjoy the story:

How long was I asleep? My mind swims and I try to remember. Screams. I remember screams. Katie. Where was Katie? Too quiet.

Light flickered. Yellow undulating light. Fire? Hard to see through the webbing. I struggle to move, but feel nothing. My body doesn’t respond. Stung and poisoned. Where was Katie?

Heavy breaths. Someone is close. I want to call out, but nothing communicates. Warmth. The fire is close. Isolated. Contained.

“John?” a soft, familiar whisper.

Megan? How?

“Don’t worry. I have Katie. The spiders are gone, but I don’t know why. I’m going to get you out, now.”
