A Cherished Word

This is my contribution to the Cherished Blogfest I mentioned earlier here. I kept it to my normal Flash Fiction Friday format. I hope that you enjoy, and that you’ll go out and visit all the others participating in this. You can find a list of them here. Maybe you’d like to participate, too. I hope you do.

A Cherished Word

On my table sits a portal. It is a flat, white, ceramic rectangle with embellished borders and a bible verse that adorns the bottom edge. It does not connect me with parallel worlds or distant planets. I cannot call back the past or visit the future with it. At least, not physically.

What does this portal do, then?

It connects me to the minds and hearts of those I cherish above all others. Through happy birthdays, corny jokes, and multitudes of messages, I connect. Through this portal, they know I am thinking about them. Always thinking about them. And smiling.

  1. I really think that being thankful to God is something that we miss out on once we get all the happiness and success. Not all are like that, but many are who are blinded by the worldly things that catch their attention. Good one. Thank you for participating in the blogfest.

    1. Thank you. I do have to say, that it is probably flash fact – or flash nonfiction. Hmm…Tried to see if I could fit it into my Flash Fiction Friday – but didn’t really concentrate on the fiction part. I must be more careful. 🙂

  2. Happy Cherished Blogfest! Enjoyed this post — thought immediately of an iPad or laptop being the portal. Sometimes I think my laptop is my window on the world, and I cringe, drag myself outside and take a look at the REAL world. (smile) Thanks for stopping by Anatomy of Perceval. Cinda

  3. Good job with the word cherished. BTW, is the portal an iPad? It sure sounds like it. Other than the bible verse, which anyone can tape on the bottom of their device, it sounds like one. Am I reading too much into it? 🙂
